The Przmatics

Like a prism bends light, The Przmatics have bent and reinvented themselves musically over the years, transforming from a single focused beam of musical light to a multicolored creative force.

The Przmatics formed in 2012. The brainchild of Mike Przygoda combined his talents from various projects to hone an Indie-rock sound perfectly suited to the group’s Chicago roots. In 2020, Przygoda welcomed a chance at reinvention, adding powerhouse vocalist Nü Moon to the ensemble.

Now, The Przmatics occupy a dreamy, piano-driven rock space. The current lineup features ever-present multi-instrumentalist bandleader Mike Przygoda, lead vocalist Nü Moon, pianist Nick Gutierrez, bassist Ausberto Acevedo, and drummer Barry Bennett.

“Always Stuck Here In Between,” the band’s 2017 debut album, earned praise in Indie Rock circles, including being recognized as the “Best Indie Rock of 2017” by Indie Rock Café.

The band’s follow-up EP, “Though Everything Seems Shattered,” was noticed by David Crosby, who praised the project’s songs and lyrics.

“Still Alive” is The Przmatics’ latest release, a five-track magnum opus on which Nü Moon’s vocals soar above somber and melodic instrumentals.

“Love Me There” opens the project with a radio-ready ethereal pop track that brims with the longing of a lover begging to be appreciated, even in her darkest moments.

“I Couldn’t Fall Asleep” welcomes a cheerful piano riff and lilting guitar track, paving the way for Moon’s vocal storytelling. The band follows with “Everything Is A War,” which begins with an understated piano lick but gives way to a driving drumbeat and a lyrical lamentation on the state of the world today.

The Przmatics shift gears in “Somewhere Still Alive,” dropping a kaleidoscopic synth beat and filling the song's tiny sonic universe with radical new sounds to establish a new status quo just before the EP ends. Horns enter the fray in the chorus, expanding the tune to new musical frontiers and crafting an endlessly listenable diddy.

Closing out the album is “Chiron” a ballad ushered in by a melancholy guitar riff. The track brings the entire project to a well-constructed end, turning the final page of the five-song story within.

The kicker? The Przmatics recorded “Still Alive” in three days.

Effortlessly weaving their politics with their creative vision, The Przmatics are an up-and-coming force in the Indie space, bound to reshape the genre.

“Still Alive” is now streaming on Bandcamp.
